What could be more festive than Prague in December? The Christmas markets, the promise of snow, the steaming cups of mulled wine… the poker (I’ll explain later)? With a couple of flexible days in my schedule, I figured it was time to get my Christmas ON with another of my “36 Hours In…” cheeky weekend breaks.
After part one and part two … part three. For the uninitiated, I’ve been searching through all of my travel pics from the past few years and have selected a few of my favourites to share over the Festive Season as my ‘Travel Advent Calendar’. The world moves so fast, we’re in a constant state of finishing up one thing and jumping on to the next, so it is a bit of a treat to be able to pause and reflect on trips past…and get a little inspiration for whatever comes next!
Just because you can’t get away AWAY, doesn’t mean you cant get away (…if you get my meaning?). If you’re short of cash, short of time or just in need of a change of scene. Even if you are only going a few stops down the tube line, you can still have a mini holiday in your hometown.
My impromptu little overnight came about as those meanies at Virgin Flying Club threatened to expire all 69,431 of my miles as I haven’t flown with them for a very, very long while (first they take away my Silver Status, now this. Oh the humanity!). Continue Reading →
Could I spend 2 days in über-expensive Copenhagen on a budget of £100? Am I crazy? (Spoiler Alert: yes and YES)
Copenhagen is one of the world’s top ten most expensive city break destinations, but this should come as no surprise. Tales of the high cost of living in Scandinavia are almost folkloric – you’ll have little trouble finding someone who’ll tell you about the time they spent £8 on a pint in Stockholm. Even I can bore you with the time I went to Oslo on a work trip and ended up spending £17 on a quick snack in a 7/11 (it was literally a bottle of water, a pastry and a packet of crisps. I paid with my corporate card and didn’t realise the ugly truth until I came to do my expenses. Should’ve chosen something healthier…)
With a macaron making class as the main ingredient, I set out to find the perfect recipe for the ultimate day out in Paris. What was I thinking??!!
Jetting off to Ibiza makes for the definitive “pimped-out” weekend…well it beats tidying the flat and doing laundry! I fly out to the White Isle for a two-night budget(ish)-bling break fit for a Diva…
Making macarons in Paris is the perfect alternative weekend when you’ve got a tooth as sweet as mine. Just don’t tell my dentist…
I’m a girl, I like cakes, I’m a walking cliché – sue me. I was going through a phase where I was OBSESSED with macaroons (we’ve all been there, right?) and, instead of signing my monthly paycheck directly over to Monsieurs Ladurée et Hermé, I decided it was high time I learned to make them myself. I mean, how hard could it be, right? I googled “macaroon making courses’, figuring I’d find a Groupon or something, when my eye was caught by a class…in Paris. Click!
