Travel Advent Calendar 2016: Part 1

If you’ve been following me on Instagram and Twitter, you’ll know all about my 2016 Travel Advent Calendar. If not, WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?!!!

Kidding…

This year, as in 2015, I’ve been rounding up my favourite travel pics and stories in honour of the festive season. Haven’t done a lot of travel this year (she says, packing for Prague this weekend…), but there is nothing like a good rummage through my hard drive to remind me of all the amazing places I’ve been lucky enough to travel to over the years, the experiences I’ve had, the people I’ve met… now I’ve come over all nostalgic *sniff*

Anyway…I’m rounding up my instagram advent calendar into 4 posts. Days 1 – 6 below. Enjoy!

Day 1

Cartagena, Colombia

Where did the year go? Seriously can't believe it's 1st December already, and you know what that means? Yes it's the return of my Travel Advent Calendar! For the next 24 days I'll be digging around the deepest, darkest depths of my hard drive to post some of my fave travel pics & stories to cheer myself up between trips, when I have to leave for work in the dark. And as a #sickbrag . Trying not to re-post too many from last year so I'll start with a newbie: a little wander through the streets of Cartagena, Colombia. The buildings in the older part of town were gorgeous and I'm a total fan of climbing plants creeping around windows and doorways. Day 1, DONE! #TravelAdventCalendar #AdventCalendar #TravelGoals #travelinspiration #cartagena #Colombia

Day 2

Milan, Italy

Behind Door #2 of my Advent Calendar : Milan. After a big night out with the crew from @ostellobello , time for a little religious contemplation (aka hangover recovery)at the Duomo. After clearing our heads climbing the towers, we filled our stomachs with the most insane Easter Sunday feast back at the hostel. I'm no foodie ( more 'drinkie'), but if Michelin inspectors visited hostels, these guys would be up there ( I doubt Heston is too worried. I'm allowed a little hyperbole – it's Christmas!). Soups, meats – the most delicate pasta (I thought it was filled with mushrooms, was told it was veal, had 5 minutes of moral wrangling then went for seconds. And thirds.). Meal went on for about 4 hours. I had to miss either dessert or my flight. It was a tough choice. Italians know to entertain… #traveladventcalendar #adventcalendar #travelgoals #travelinspiration #italy #milan

Day 3

Copenhagen, Denmark

Day 4

Tulum, Mexico

And behind door 4…Tulum. Before my parents bought our family home, they asked my brother and I which of the billion houses they'd dragged us around all summer we liked the best. There was no competition. Was it the location? The good school catchment area? The Investment potential? No. It was because it had a swing in the back garden (I was 5 – this was as sophisticated as my decision-making process got) Years later, I'm still obsessed and will not hesitate to barge toddlers out of the way to get to the swings first, ESPECIALLY if they are on a beach. Back and forth with the sun on your back and breeze through your hair looking miles and miles out to sea…could do that for hours. #traveladventcalendar #adventcalendar #travelgoals #travelinspiration #mexico #tulum #swings #swingset #beachswing #beachswings #nevergrowup
