Travel Advent Calendar 2016: Part 4

Ever since this year’s calendar went live, people have been asking me about my amazing year of travel. Cartagena, Milan, Copenhagen, Tulum, Singapore, São Paulo, Dubai, Rio, Trinidad, Koh Phangan, Hawaii, Laos, Porto, Paris, Jericoacoara, Nicaragua, The Hunter Valley, Mérida, Taganga, Monteverde, Punta del Este and Bogotá in one year? I WISH!!!

No, this calendar, like last year’s edition (you’ll find it on twitter and instagram: may well post here at a later date), is just a summary of my greatest hits. The places I’ve been lucky enough to travel to, the experiences I have had, the people I have met… ah, precious memories. Particularly at this time of year when everyone starts to get a little more reflective, its the looking back that can give us the flash of inspiration, the kick up the backside we sometimes need to move forward and plan the next chapter in our lives. Let’s make it a block-busting, page-turning, pot-boiling bodice-ripper!

So we come to the final 7 days of my 2016 calendar. Catch up with parts 1-3 here, here & here.

Happy 2017, everyone!

Day 19

North Shore, Oahu, Hawaii

The Epic Sunset: Part 1

Day 19 (cont.)

Epic Sunset: The Remix

Day 20

Mérida, Yucatán, Mexico

Let There Be Light…

Day 21

Taganga, Magdalena, Colombia

Speedboats and Sunsets

On Day 21, the crowd gathers to watch the sun drop out of the sky in Taganga, Colombia. For me, it had been a looooong day. I'd spent hours attempting to navigate the Tayrona National Park (I told the story here last year – it's a little painful to relive) with a stinking hangover, but received reward #1 – the jaw-dropping beach at Cabo San Juan. I took the boat back to Taganga (hike my way back out of the park, before dark, with my sense of direction? Hell no!) in time for reward #2 : this breathtaking sunset. I met up with the Cartagena Crew for another night out in Santa Marta and reward #3: a 5 -hour flight to San Andrés via Bogotá on one hour of sleep with another stinking hangover. I never learn… #traveladventcalendar #adventcalendar #colombia #taganga #santamarta #parquetayrona #tayronanationalpark #sunsetlovers #sunset #travelbucketlist #travelinspiration #travelgoals

Large cappuccino, extra…fur?

Day 23

Punta del Este, Uruguay

“Dude, Where’s My Yacht?”

Day 24

Jericoacoara, Ceará, Brazil

Sunsets and Sand Dunes

Day 25

Bogotá, Colombia

Blue Santas and Boris Bikes

Christmas Day is over, I've eaten and drunk too much (it's tradition) so all that remains for me to do is post one last pic to complete my 2016 Travel Advent Calendar. I started in Colombia, I'll end there too, this time Bogotá with a super random photo of 4 guys dressed in blue Santa Suits riding what appear to be Boris Bikes outside a shopping mall… No, me neither. I have zero explanation for anything in this picture apart from the fact that it looks sort of festive. Happy Christmas, all! Hope Santa brought you everything you wished for. I'm off to plan more trips for 2017 so I'll have something to post next year – I've run out of pics! #traveladventcalendar #adventcalendar #colombia #bogota #bogotá #bluechristmas #travelproblems
